Thought For The Day

Terrified

According to Luke 2:9, the Shepherds who watched their flocks in the field that night when the Savior was born, were terrified.

There is a lot to fear during these days. I fear many men, especially those of wealth and power, have much to fear right now. Heaven knows Southern California residents are in fear for their homes, property, and even their lives. Terrorism is not going away, whether is comes from individuals who are aggrieved (or just mentally deranged), or terror hungry groups who want to rule the society they represent or the World at large, there is, and should be, much concern.

Mary (the mother of Jesus of Nazareth) was afraid when the angel appeared to her. Joseph (Mary’s husband) was instructed to “not be afraid,” because that is the normal reaction to events over which we have great concern. The closest Disciples of Jesus during his ministry on Earth were often afraid, even to the point that they chose to run away when the “going got tough.’

Our society is in fear that anything we might say or do will offend some group, or individual. Why else would we hear “Happy Holidays” during this time of the year? Opening one’s mouth about any subject, especially politically, or regarding “religion” carries the burden of being careful not to offend. Unfortunately those fears are moving us toward a Godless future.

But we do not have to be afraid. Belief of the Truth changes fear to joy. Obedience changes fear to victory. Truth changes death to life.

God is in the fear relieving business!
