Thought For The Day

The Christmas Gift (Part 1)

Being a mother or a grandmother is a unique and special privilege. They are givers of great gifts to children, and I llove to watch my bride preparing the gifts she (and I) will give to our children and grandchildren. But we are not the only givers. Each of us, whether parents or not, are deeply involved in the influence of children.

Matthew 18:1-6 is vital reading for us this Christmas. (Please take time to do so.) It gives us incredible insight into Jesus’ regard for children. We are giving something too children. What we are giving is the question.

Over a hundred years ago, Henry David Thoreau commented regarding what he saw as an impasse toward which our society was moving. He said, “Improved” means to an unimproved end.” I am sure he was referring to the movement of our society toward where we are today, and we must think about the movement now toward what our children and grandchildren will know as their society in the future.

Our  civilization is moving toward a non-spiritual environment. It is certainly not difficult for us to see that if we have any understanding of the direction in which we are moving, any eyes for Truth. It is easy to give our children and grandchildren a little piece of our society – it is more difficult to give them that which is worthwhile.

We can give them with a few dollars a dozen ways to hear music. Giving them an appreciation for good (great) music is much harder. TIME Magazine chose “Lizzo” as 2019 Entertainer of the Year. You may or may not know who that is. . .but your children and maybe even your grandchildren will. Keep your money, keep them as far from that as possible.

Tomorrow I will give you some more thoughts. . .
