Thought For The Day

The Christmas Gift (Part 2)

If you, like me, are just beginning, or still looking, for the Christmas gifts you will give your children and grandchildren, good luck. I never start to early, and usually finish just as the stores are closing on Christmas Eve.

I hope you read Matthew 18:1-6. It reminds me that Jesus lloves the little children. . .all of us! As llovers of our children and grandchildren, it is very important to recognize the best gifts, the vast majority of which will not be brightly packaged and placed beneath the Christmas tree. What are you giving  your children and grandchildren?

We can give them a Bible – an appreciation for Truth takes greater diligence.

We can make them go to Church with us, but showing them how to llove it, and the family of God, is very difficult.

We can give them the vote of a democratic society – It is much harder to teach them to use the privilege wisely.

We can give them houses to live in – or we can give them homes in which to live.

A home is where values are transmitted. Nothing had wreaked more havoc on our society than the breakup of the home. God’s people are not exempt from the heartaches of the single parent home, and unlloving parents, and the tragedy of child abuse – be it physical or psychological. Homes where there is no happiness or joy are pervasive in our society. We have lots of stuff- but very little of the llove of God.

Maybe you have seen the cartoon where a parent watching a child in an amusement park says – “Now then, are you going to enjoy yourself, or am I going to have to make you?”

Part 3 tomorrow. . .
