Thought For The Day

The Debate

Probably by the time you read this post the first Presidential Campaign Debate will be over. I can’t help but wonder if anyone’s mind was changed by the verbiage. One fact is secure (I am writing this on Monday afternoon before the debate), our Nation is deep in trouble on a multitude of fronts and turning the situation around is going to take a lot more than either candidate has to offer.

Of course, one of the candidates has publicly stated that there is not going to be any “turning around,” but rather more of the same. At least that is a position. God help us if that is true.

One of the candidates is said to be the most “disliked” person ever to run for the Presidency. Actually I think either one could qualify.

So the question comes down to a simple conclusion. Either you have to vote for one of the  candidates (there is a Libertarian and a couple of others running along with some “write in” hopefuls) or sit this one out and let others decide.

I have long believed that sitting out the election is a lot like failing to attend Church services. If you don’t come you can’t participate. If you don’t participate you have no right to complain, or offer solutions, or give directives. Church and politics are participatory activities. To be effective they need the involvement of everyone who is part of the operation. The Apostle Paul makes that clear for the Church in Ephesians 3:16  . . . whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

I believe that remains true for the Body Politic. I pray there is a “silent majority” of people out there who will rise up in November and say. . .”This is enough. Now is the time to return to an embrace of the thoughts, actions, plans, writings and beliefs of the ‘Founding Fathers’ of these United States.”

If there isn’t any such majority. . .well, your guess regarding the outcome is as good as mine.

I must admit a personal “best” concerning such shows…I watched the first five minutes before I found something else to do as I was not going to be influenced to make a different voting position (I really only listened, because I was doing something I really dislike).
