Thought For The Day

The Dilemma

Almost everyone on TV (a terrible place to get info or discover stuff) says that wearing a mask is mandatory, or wise, or safe, or the “right” thing to do. Some of my friends tell me it is a total waste of time and effort, and others tell me they are not going to do it. . .period! What’s a guy supposed to do?

While I am not afraid of this particular virus (covid-19), I don’t want to get it. I hate being, “sick” and though I have never been quarantined I am sure I wouldn’t like it. I pretty much  go wherever it is I want to go. I don’t want to be the source for someone else to become ill because of me – maybe I am an asymptomatic carrier and those I am around could be exposed without ever knowing from where it came .

Hence the dilemma. But there is a more important question on my mind these days. How I interpret the will and purpose of God for my life regarding obedience looms large during this dilemma. If the “government” says we have to shut down our Church, or at the very least, limit the number of folks who can attend any given gathering, what are we to do? Scripture is clear that we are to are obedient to those who have authority over us (Romans 13:1ff; 1 Peter 2:13ff), but God’s words and actions for us are to never fear, trust Him, and not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. (see Hebrews 10:25)

Our Pastor is willing to do everything he can to support the coming end of this matter. He  will do all he can to mitigate this virus. He will not stop worshiping together with the people of God, nor will he refuse to provide them the opportunity and/or space in which to do so. Many people believe that the ability to “live-stream” the Worship service provides an acceptable way to Worship. The problem exists that the Church of Jesus Christ is a “fellowship”  We are designed to BE  TOGETHER. We don’t Worship, or learn, or pray, or praise best alone. We are “one Body” and we worship, work, learn, grow, llove, and share our lives together with the strength and gifting of each individual joined together by the Spirit of God in us to become what our Father has designed. Our relationships with each other are mandatory to reach maturity in The Faith. That is far better than whatever is next on this terminal blue planet.

Amen, brother–“Strength and gifting of each individual” Everyone is a teacher to someone, having a different perspective ( Revelation) from the Spirit.
