Thought For The Day

The Eternal Reign

It seems as if this “stay at home,” “six feet apart,” “avoid places where there are more than ten people,” has been going on for too long. If you’re like most folks I know, you are ready for it to be over. Just over. Let’s get back to our frantic, hectic, busy, scheduled life.

I have often heard that “nothing lasts forever.” So if that were true we would understand that something else will follow this and it will be better or worse, and what we consider to be normal within the confines of each individual life will soon be back on track.

I am wondering if this particularly crisis will move people any closer to an understanding that there is only one thing that really matters – and that one thing is the eternal reign of the Lord. Whether one acknowledges that reign, or ignores it, the Truth is that it will affect the present, and the future, just as it has the past.

The Psalmist in Psalm 93 provides a look at what is past, what is present, and what is future. Arguing with the Truth is futile, and wastes the time of those who do so. Failure to understand the Truth is the result of carelessness and/or indifference. While it is True that unrighteous people cannot comprehend the Word of God (to them it is foolishness), God’s llove for all people of the World has been clearly delineated. Redemption from the curse of sin and death has been completed, and any person can, and all people must, come to faith in Christ Jesus or face the judgment of Almighty God.

Hear the Psalm:

The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed, enveloped in strength.
The world is firmly established;
it cannot be shaken.
Your throne has been established
from the beginning;[a]
you are from eternity.      (The Past vss. 1-2)
The floods have lifted up, Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their pounding waves.    (The Present vs. 3)
Greater than the roar of a huge torrent—
the mighty breakers of the sea—
the Lord on high is majestic.    (The Future vs. 4)

Lord, your testimonies are completely reliable, holiness adorns your house, O LORD,  for all the days to come.
