Thought For The Day

The Journey

It has been a long time, but today my bride and I went on a “journey.” That means we left our little farm and headed out to make “turns” as the mood struck us. First we wandered down River Road that runs along the Sabine River in places.  We were looking for the “big house” that someone told us was along there not far from where we started. No luck. We never saw a big house, just lots of small, medium, and strange.

Then we turned onto a road that was supposedly taking us to Camp Fannin.

Camp Fannin was a U.S. Army Infantry Replacement Training Center and prisoner-of-war camp located near Tyler, Texas. It was opened in 1943 and only operated for four years, before closing in 1946. It is credited with training over 200,000 U.S. Soldiers, sometimes as many as 40,000 at one given time. (Wikipedia)

We found a few historical markers showing where certain buildings had stood, and the Camp Theatre is still there – although it is something else now. Much of the area is residential, but I understand that out in the woods one can find lots of concrete slabs and the remains of some buildings if one knows where to look. We didn’t have enough time – and it was way to hot to hike.

I begin to think about how so many of us need (and enjoy) a hike through the Scriptures. Reading about what God has done since He spoke this Universe into existence is very exciting. If you want a quick sample, read His comments to Job after Job got a little “uppity.” (See Job 38ff)

We can read all about His formation of the Church in Acts, and how a Church is supposed to be about it’s calling in Ephesians, and what llove really is in 1 John. It is a wonderful journey that leads us to faith, and maturity in that faith. Take a journey there!
