Thought For The Day

The Same

Things change. Every day we are getting new and different reports on the state of the Covid- 19 pandemic. Some reports seem meant to scare us (the Governor of NY scares me), others have a bit of encouragement. We are finally beginning to see some numbers regarding how many have contracted the virus and survived. Some of them are OLD people (like me). There is more talk about how some Countries are returning to a more normal operation, and many are talking about “flattening the curve” meaning there are fewer cases and they are coming at a slower rate.

The reality is – while everything changes, everything stays the same. There are “hot spots” where it seems as if everyone in an area (which can be very large) are contracting the virus, and there is concern about whether there is sufficient medical assistance available to handle  the outbreak.

Meanwhile, God is not sleeping nor has He forfeited His position. He has maintained His perfect, infinite llove for all mankind, offering redemption for and to anyone who will call on His name. Circumstances in the World have always included the terrors of  disobedience, demonstrating the sinfulness of mankind in every manner of pain, suffering and death.

I am reminded of the fear that followed the terroristic attack on America which we recall as “9-11.” For a few weeks in the aftermath of that blow to our Nation our Churches were crowded with men and women who wanted answers. And answers were given – the same answers that have been given since Jesus gave Himself a ransom on Calvary. Quickly, however, Truth was forgotten and almost everything returned to the same as it had been. Churches saw their congregations shrink and in society corruption of every kind proliferated.

Now, there are a plethora of Church buildings that are closed. It’s hard to tell how many people listen to a “live stream,” and the impact of the message is unknown. It’s a different panic, a silent killer among us – ravaging our friends and neighbors and wreaking havoc on our financial well-being, and offering an unknown societal structure should we survive.

God’s message has not changed. Matthew 11:28-30“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy andMy burden is light.”

There is life in the blood of Jesus Christ, and there is hope and power in His Name!
