Thought For The Day

The Storm Has Passed

Saturday, March 9, 2019. I am sitting here looking out my window. Fifteen minutes ago the wind was blowing hard, rain was pouring down, and it looked for all the World that we were in for something harsh. Ten minutes before that I was walking across the yard watching the clouds gather quickly. Darkness was coming and it was a few minutes before 10am.

It is now 10:30am. The storm has passed. The sun is bright and there is almost no wind at all. I can see beautiful flowers all around – bright yellow daffodils, Carolina Jasmine, and the redbud trees are bursting with blooms. The incredibly beautiful white dogwoods are just starting to leaf out and soon will be filled with exquisite blossoms. The Banks Rose has it’s leaves, blossoms will soon appear.

In the midst of our attempts to be discouraged over the struggles and variables of life, God sends His never ending beauty. Spring is the harbinger of eternal life that returns again and again after the cold of Winter. Our Father is the progenitor of all things bright and good, wonderfully beautiful and eternal.

Our life as Believers is much like that. We see the ugliness of men’s minds and hearts, feel the defeat of Christian principles being ignored and thereby destroyed in our society. The anger that wells up inside us is like the coming storm. If we are not wise we allow that attitude, that discouragement, that bitterness, to string out our days and weeks and years.

But wisdom is triumphant when we allow the TRUTH of Scripture, His promises, His commitments to us, and His family, to fill us with peace. Hope, planted deep inside our being springs to life, and fullness of joy reigns supreme.

I’m taking my Bride and a long time (50+  years) friend to lunch. Tomorrow I will worship with God’s people. We will sing the great hymns of the Church, and God’s Word will be clearly proclaimed. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
