Thought For The Day

This Fall

Fall is for football. Cowboys football. However, I am much less inclined to watch than I used to be. Not sure if it is them or me. Old age seems to bring higher priorities. In fact, I am about to agree with those who don’t have TV’s in their home. I do find watching the “News” enlightening, and I would miss that.

Now comes the Fall TV schedule.

This fall TV season promises to be the best in years. The medium continues to draw A-List stars: Julia Roberts appears in an Amazon drama called Homecoming, and Superbad co-stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill team up for the mind-bending Netflix drama, Maniac. On the comedy side, Jim Carrey plays a Mr. Rogers type dealing with a mental break in Kidding, and Jennifer Garner is teaming up with the Girls writers to portray the vacation from hell in Camping. (TIME)

I am sure I can live without any of that, or other drivel that comes my way. But I understand that everyone is not like me. . .so. . .how about I propose a plan that will let you watch TV (if you have nothing better to do) in trade for something that I know is worthwhile?

For every hour you spend in TV watching, spend the corresponding amount of time reading God’s Word. You can read through a lot of books of the Bible in less than an hour. It may be that you find the Bible so interesting you will cut back (or cut out) on the TV watching. I know one thing, if you read the Bible as much or more than you watch TV, some good things will happen. You might miss the “vacation from Hell,” but you will come to discover that Hell has no hold on those who believe that Christ died to free all mankind from the curse of sin and death.

You won’t likely learn that on TV!
