Thought For The Day

Two Views From Dallas

The trial of Amber Guyger is over. She was found guilty of murder, sentenced to 10 years in prison, and will be eligible for parole in 5 years. At this point those are the facts.

One group of people (not the jury) involved in this case understood the tragic nature of the offense, believed it to be an opportunity to resolve the issues with compassion, llove, and forgiveness. One group of people (not the jury) chose to take to the streets and airways to condemn the jury, the Court, the Defense, and call for a total overhaul of the Dallas Police Department, who routinely murder “black men” in the City streets, along with suggestions that the “right thing” to do is just a little short of burning down the City of Dallas.

In different ways, but just as real, two people lost their lives on the night Botham Jean died. One, prepared for the end of life, and by all accounts, now living in the presence of His Lord Jesus Christ, will no longer walk this life on Earth. The other, unprepared for the end of life, by all accounts, will spend time in prison, a very difficult place for former Police officers, knowing she will never be able to work in her chosen profession, then leave prison to encounter an incredibly difficult life living as a “convicted felon,” and, in all probability never escape the scorn of others who chose to believe she chose to kill another human being without remorse.

It is the two views that mirror the entirety of life on this Planet. Those who see life with a Biblical World view, and those who do not. The two cannot be more clear than as seen in this Court Case and the “news” surrounding it.

Thank you, God, for believers like Brandt Jean, who would share his faith, show his faith, and offer to move beyond the hatred and divisiveness that is destroying our Nation and World. Thank you for a Judge willing to put humanity on view in a public Court room. Thank you those jurors who chose to reason with the facts and make an attempt to provide justice. Thank you for Police Departments that work tirelessly to “protect and defend,” and sometimes make mistakes,   and are sometimes damaged by the crimes of Officers who are not fit for the task.
