Thought For The Day

UnGodly

It is unbelievably frequent in politics right now. Sometimes it is very creative, but mostly it just hurts the individual who is subject to the abuse. I speak of the practice of “name calling” through which “names” are attached to people with whom one has a problem, or folks one just don’t like.

Our President (of the United States of America) is well known for his ability to assign monikers to almost everyone who crosses him. . .or those he is convinced have done so. It is certainly not a new or rare occurrence.

Kids (children, if you will) pick up the practice while they are quite young. It is indeed sad those  habits often follow them into their adult life

Unfortunately the Church of Jesus Christ has not escaped the practice. Particularly, as anger becomes a part of the Church family, name-calling is quick to follow. I am convinced that most people have experienced such, and perhaps have found themselves guilty of the evil themselves.

My concern is not just the hurt it causes the person involved to suffer, but the entirety of the Church family suffers. There is never an excuse for name-calling or speaking evil against a brother or sister in Christ. Liable and slander are crimes, not just in our legal system, but in God’s economy as well.

When angry, or aggrieved, you will find that assaulting another with words of anger and words of evils is a violation of God’s standard for HIs people. It is nothing short of unGodly, and robs God of His glory.

Here’s a suggestion. It comes from a woman who grew old telling her children – “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say any thing at all.” Try it! Name calling was not allowed in her home. We should not allow such in the family of God.

If you’re a name caller — Stop it!! It is a Godless practice. If you can find an avenue to forgive or find forgiveness from others, Take it! You will be glad you did – now or later.
