Thought For The Day

Vision

At the little Church I attend the Pastor has been talking about “vision” in the evening Worship services. I admit I have learned a lot about “seeing the future” from God’s perspective, and recognizing that I will not be of much help in moving the Church forward if I cannot visualize that which God has designed for it.

A couple of weeks ago he asked what we thought would be the first step in moving toward reaching the goals that God has for us as a small Church in a small community.  Someone answered with the statement, “set priorities for our journey.” Then, the Pastor just left it there. . .said nothing about “priorities” for a couple of weeks, and this past Sunday night announced he would discuss the first priority for us as a Church.

And so, we looked at 2 Corinthians 8:1-5. The reality is that the Church in Macedonia, even while in great affliction, and with deep poverty, ministered to other Churches throughout the area, and quite naturally to the people around them.

I testify that, on their own, according to their ability and beyond their ability, they begged us insistently for the privilege of sharing in the ministry to the saints, and not just as we had hoped.  5) Instead, they gave themselves especially to the Lord, then to us by God’s will.

Then the Pastor pointed out that the first priority, our most important priority, the only winning priority was found in vs. 5. First, they gave themselves to the Lord, then to the ministry God set before them.  That is always God’s way. That is the beginning of winning. That is the beginning of the “vision.” That is God’s design!!
