Thought For The Day

Voting

We are getting close to another Presidential election. I think a lot about that. The first time I remember thinking about Presidential elections was when Dwight Eisenhower was running. That was a long time ago.

When I reached 21 years of age I started voting in Presidential elections, and have done so every time since then. I think it is my duty, my privilege, and a symbol of the freedom purchased for me by the blood, sweat, and tears of those who have gone before.

I have heard several people who say they are choosing to “sit this one out.” I guess that is because it is impossible on the one hand, and difficult on the other,  to be excited about the prospects of what lies ahead.

I am willling to say that I believe “real Americans” won’t opt out of their responsibility. However difficult it seems to be, a decision made with a clear understanding of the options is mandatory.

Someone is going to win a majority (general election, Electoral College) and assume the role of “Leader of the Free World.” Not voting, or wasting one’s vote on someone who cannot (will not) win is a vote for the one who does win.

While the choices are limited, the future dim, and the options scary at best and tragic at worst, find your voice by either mailing your vote, voting early, or showing up at the Polls on November 8. It is a solemn responsibility that must not be shirked. The future of our Nation depends on the wisdom of it’s inhabitants. Keep praying there is still enough out there for us (read: U. S.) to survive.
