Thought For The Day

Waco

When you read this the “airing” will be past. This evening (January 4) at 8pm there will be a documentary on the occurrences 25 years ago in in Waco regarding the Branch Davidian group led by David Koresh.

I am uncertain if I will watch the documentary. I believe the Davidian group was not afforded the protection they were due under our Constitution. While I know their theology was flawed, and they may have abused, to one degree or another, members of the cult, or possessed illegal weapons, or committed other petty crimes, I am unwilling to accept any premise the U. S. Government acted with impartiality.

While I am certain everyone should have exactly the same theology I embrace (hyperbole), I believe every one has a freedom to embrace the theology they choose. Christians (genuine Believers) have historically been the subject of everything from harsh criticism to death for their faith. I expect to have the freedom to worship the infinite God of Creation who sustains our Cosmos by the power of His Word. Others may choose differently, and they, as I, deserve the freedom to do so. While I cannot and will not agree that what other believe is correct, I have no more right to hinder their actions than they do mine.

It is possible that the outcome of that nightmare in Waco was exactly what the Davidian group desired. The Government, in my opinion, erred in allowing them to be pushed to the point of carrying out their plan on that day in that place. If it was otherwise, it is my opinion they were persecuted to death.

It’s an ugly event in American history. I pray no group or individual will ever again experience that kind of persecution (if it was) at the hand of our Government.
