Thought For The Day

Which?

I had lunch today at a place I had not previously been. I am not promoting them, but I will say that the food was excellent (even though a bit pricy). It may be one with which you are familiar – or not – but I was reminded of something important.

The place is called “Which Wich.” I was amazed at the selections that seemed to abound in endless direction. I, of course, chose wisely, and had a quite delicious sandwich.

It reminded me of “Church.” Yep, really. Choosing which Church to attend often comes down to making selections based on a multitude of possibilities. Which building is closer? Which type of music is more to my liking? Which one has the best children’s/youth/single/senior adult program? Which Church has the most interesting Preacher? Which one does not have Sunday night services? Which one has the most “home groups?” In which one am I most likely to not be missed when I am not there?

The Truth is that some folks choose Churches the way they choose sandwiches. I won’t deny that choosing the right sandwich is important to enjoyable eating, but I will certify that none of the above criteria is crucial in finding a Church. What is critical is discovering where the Truth is proclaimed clearly and accurately. It is vital that people find a place where they can be used by God to minister to others. There is a mandate that the place we worship be under the leadership and control of Jehovah God, and that the record of God’s revelation to man be the focus of our attention. It doesn’t hurt that a lot of the other things mentioned earlier are also a part.

It is also OK if on Supper Night there are some great sandwiches.
