Thought For The Day

Winning

Michael Jordan, formerly with the Chicago Bulls basketball team, is 57 years old. I am grateful that I was able to see him play. His abilities are stuff of legend. While I admired Bird and Magic, Russell and Chamberlain, Jordan is still on the top of my list.

Dean Schabner, writing for ABC News has it exactly right –

Unlike the great stars playing in today’s game – likely future hall of famers Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Durant and others – Jordan was more than the sum of his fantastic numbers. He was unbeatable, like nobody else in NBA history.

In a commentary about Jordan, Schabner makes, in my opinion, the defining statement –

Again, Jordan was more than the sum of his highlight reels. The NBA is full of players capable of astounding feats of flight. But there is still only one Jordan. There plenty of players seemingly capable of scoring at will. Jordan took that to another level. He won at will. [Emphasis mine]

I want to be that kind of Believer, don’t you? The Scriptures teach us clearly that we are empowered by the Spirit of God. We are filled to overflowing with the llove of Christ. The One who dwells in us is greater than the one that is in this World. We are more than conquerors – overcomers, winners. . .yes, that is the right word.

Winning at will! Will it to be so in your life. Place your life in the center of God’s perfect will for you. “Discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God,” (Romans 12:2) and live that out – winning at will!
