Fixing the “Gun” Problem
The more simple the issue the easier it is to fix. It is my opinion that removing guns from our society can never be accomplished, and any attempt to do so will bring rebellion to a point that no one will be safe from the ensuing onslaught of divisiveness. So, beyond that, stricter laws might be added to the books, but only those that increase or speed the punishment for anyone who murders or injures another human being, in what is determined to be a “mass shooting.” Regardless of the number injured or murdered, the perpetrator will be immediately put to death following a trial that is held, within a matter of days (no more than 30) of capture, and a returned guilty verdict in a Court of Law. No appeals. No leniency. Of course that will only stop a few who are looking to be martyred, or are searching for fame. Never mentioning the name or history of the perpetrator , or allowing the individual (even photos) to be seen, or interviewed by media, or by anyone except the Court, must be strictly enforced.
But, since that would be an unlikely law in our society, it is a moot issue. Guns, of any kind, no matter how many rounds they may hold, or regardless of how fast they can be fired, are not the issue. Rather, the challenge is to change the mind of every individual in the Nation regarding the concept of murder. Murder must become the unseen, unknown factor in every possible venue. Movies, TV, electronic games, must not provide for learning how or why to murder human beings. Violence of any stripe, short of self defence, must be stricken from our society as an “0ptional” behaviour which will bring, in every occurrence of the death of others, immediate punishment under the Law. The value of every life must be the focus of attention.
