Like Him
Once in a great while someone will say to me, “I wish I was just like you.” I quickly point out their total lack of understanding about who, and what I am! Sometime we get focused on becoming similar to someone we admire, or llove, or a person who has helped us through a struggle or difficulty. It may be that person has some wonderful characteristics that you can emulate, but let me be abundantly clear. Your goal is to be like Christ. Certainly all of us ought to live so that others can learn from us how to make that journey, being very careful to make sure we are focused on Christ alone.
In Matthew 10 Jesus Himself made it very clear what we are to be “like.” In verses 38-39 He says, “Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
Finding a likeness of His life living through us is where real (genuine) life lives. Perhaps Paul said it best in Galatians 2:20 – I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
No question – it is the life of a warrior, defeating fear and discouragement, a teacher and servant, loyal only to Him, and willing to die to self and sin, and, perhaps to lose one’s life altogether. We bear HIS mark. We become a new creation. Old things pass away, and everything becomes new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
