Contemporary Hymns
Thinking about Hymns, and how they fit so poorly with a lot of “contemporary” mind set, we might need to make some changes. While it is unfair to the author to change the words, the reality is some hymns just don’t fit our lifestyle or or practice. Here is a random selection of hymn changes (just the choruses) that could better fit the “contemporary heart.”
“When the roll is called up yonder, when the roll is called up yonder, when the roll is called up yonder, how I wish I knew for certain I’ll be there.”
“Standing, standing, standing on the sidelines of God my Savior. Standing, standing, I’m standing on the sidelines of the Lord.”
“It’s not well, (It’s not well) with my soul (with my soul). It’s not well, It’s not well with my soul.”
“Just a casual walk with Thee, grant it Jesus is my plea. Sometimes walking close to Thee, let it be, my fiend, let it be.”
“This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior when I have time. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior once in a while.”
It is heartbreaking some many of those who claim to be God’s children have so little time for Him or His family (the Church). Prayer, Bible study, sharing our faith, and utilising the power of His Spirit to reach a lost and dying World is somewhere down the line on our priority list. A portion of the “Contemporary Church” music is so inwardly self focused it fails as badly as these examples would if we rewrote the songs with the half-hearted exaltation, praise, and honor demonstrated.
Music is vital to the Church! Singing that which is Scripturally accurate and appropriate must be the starting point for praising the Lord God of Heaven and Earth! It is mandatory to sing Truth and live that Truth inside (the Family gathered) and outside (on mission to reach others for Christ) the family of God.
