Earthy Insight
If one cuts a ton of briars (briars are very light), and then burns them, they will not show up again for two or three days. Granted they are not as huge and damaging, but they are back. Taking a summer off from cutting will put one back in the same position which originally embraced hope to be finished. It’s time to surrender. The job is never going to slow down, and never ends. So…get the tools sharp and get going.
On the other hand there is still a little hope down the road at the Church. The Pastor is still believing that one Sunday everyone is going to show up, listen, learn, understand, and allow the Spirit of God to build them day by day to a Spiritual Maturity that matches the Truth of God’s Word. When I last spoke with him, he was optimistic for the future, but I can sense his fear that the Enemy is gaining ground in the lives of so many people who choose lesser understanding regarding the Truth, and the disciplines of God’s Word.
I wonder if all people in the family of God (those truly redeemed) dream of the days when they, people in the pew, will be filled with the desire to become all that God has intended for them as His children? Some seemed convinced that they can wait till arriving in Heaven to focus on God’s clear design. There are Pastors, Teachers, Leaders in the group that are having the same struggle with obedience, discipline, commitment, and desire.
If inattention to Truth (in the life of a Believer) is like the briars (which grow with amazing speed), there may be a disconnect regarding the origin of new life, and the mandatory “new birth” experience. Check this out: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
