Thought For The Day

Barn Doors and Such

AP Iraqi security forces conducted intense searches at checkpoints in Baghdad on Monday amid warnings of more attacks, as Iraqis questioned how two buses packed with explosives penetrated what was supposed to be one of the city’s safest areas, killing 155 people.

This report reminds me of that old adage about closing the barn door after the horse is already gone. I don’t know anything about the security, or lack thereof, in Baghdad, but it would appear to me that something went dreadfully wrong somewhere. I do know that when things are going right, or perhaps when things are not going badly, we have a tendency to be a bit lax or lethargic in our vigilance.

When, as a believer, things are going “just right” for you, be reminded that the Enemy is lurking somewhere in the shadows waiting for the opportunity to “blast” you. While he can never defeat you or cause your ultimate destruction, he can wreak a bit of havoc in your fellowship with the Father if you are not fully focused, centered, and committed to diligence in that relationship.

The Scripture reminds us to be constantly alert to the possibilities that distraction (a favorite tool of the Enemy) will foil our peace and comfort which comes through constant fellowship with God. (see 1 John 1:1-4).

When you least expect it, the enemy will attempt to (and often succeed) drop a “bomb” or two into your daily walk. Being prepared can make all the difference in the outcome.
