Thought For The Day

Baseball Fans

I said I would stop paying attention to Major League Baseball a few years ago when the strike occurred. And while I have been to a game or two at the Ball Park in Arlington, I have never really paid much attention to the Rangers or any other team

This year I have been teasing my beautiful bride and others (you know who you are) about the Rangers propensity to lose in the end (sometimes much earlier). But this has been a great year for them, and I am excited to think they could (and probably will) win the World Series.

For a while, some years ago now, I worked at Turnpike Stadium as an usher. I attended a lot of games. I always disliked the fact that Jose Canseco would come out to warm up wearing a gold jersey while everyone else wore grey. I lloved to watch Nolan Ryan warm up before he was to pitch. Usually along the first base line, he and a Catcher would play pitch and catch. With the Catcher near home Nolan would go about half way to first, then after a few throws back up a little, soon past first, and seemingly nearly to the middle of the outfield. I always wanted to be able to throw like that.

Now they are on top. Good!  And for all you fans, cheer them on with boundless enthusiasm!

One day, and it could be soon, the Church will be the focus of attention. Christ will return to claim His Bride, and every eye and ear will be focused on the reality that what may seem today a bit far-fetched (as one might well have felt at the beginning of this year’s baseball season) will be the event of eternity. I pray you are as ready for that as the real Ranger fans are for the 2010 World Series. (see John 3:16)
