Getting It Right

Partisan politics is a dangerous area to enter. No matter what one says, one will be criticized or vilified by opponents.

It is mandatory, however, that our Nation and those people who comprise it, understand the meaning of words. We have long suffered in the Church of Jesus Christ by allowing “words” to mean whatever we want them to mean depending on the circumstances. That is seriously flawed behavior and ultimately leads to failure to become like our Savior.

The States of Wisconsin, Ohio, and others are working on various resolutions which will allow them to continue operating their governments. And while good people disagree on how to do that, it is counter-productive to use words in such a manner that it appears they mean what they do not.

In Wisconsin, once contingent of the Legislature has left the State to avoid involving themselves in legislative debate and subsequent votes. I suppose they are at liberty to do that, however, call that action what it is – and I don’t know what that would be, but I do know what it is not.

Here is quote from Associated Press regarding one Legislator’s thinking:

One of the missing Democrats, Minority Leader Mark Miller, delivered a response from Illinois. “The only action available to us to slow this down and allow democracy to work was to take us out of the Capitol,” he said. [emphasis mine]

Whatever his actions are – they are not democracy. Perhaps some folks need to return to 8th grade Civics class for a lesson on correctly defining “democracy.”

In my business one can call “sin” in the life of a Believer a “mistake” as often as one would like. That will not ever change the fact that one’s sin is a blatant rebellion against God and His revealed Word. Let’s don’t make words into something they are not to satisfy ourself. As at least a few people say, “words mean things.”
