Scripps Spelling Bee is on going and it is exciting to see that there are children in our National Education System that can actually spell. I have noticed that a significant number of kids (not to mention adults)  have great difficulty with spelling.

It’s not that spelling is vitally important, after all, the idea of writing is to communicate – and that can be accomplished with the latest rounds of “shorthand” that are used by almost everyone involved in on-line social media. It’s just that it seems more. . .mature, if you will, to actually know the difference between, say, your and ur, or tmr and tomorrow.

One noticeable difference is this: In an interesting bit of trivia, the 2008 and 2009 winners of the bee said they wanted to become neurosurgeons, and last year’s winner said she wanted to become a cardiovascular surgeon. (Associated Press) It often seems that poor spellers advance to less difficult positions in life, or those which require fewer difficult decisions.

Excellent spelling won’t make you fit for either one – but, let’s be real. Someone has done some studying here – and determining which one is easy.

God said, “Study to show yourself approved to God, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” There are way to many of us who can’t even sepll Truth.
