Thought For The Day

Really? Maybe Not

It would seem to this observer that most of the people in this great Nation are not focused on politics. Those who are – really are. But, check the figures on voter turn-out for everything from local to National political races, and you will find most people doing something they find more valuable.

It has caused me to wonder about statements made by certain folks – for example: “Americans are sick and tired of the partisan bickering” in the capital,” says Jay Carney, the President’s spokesperson. Really? Maybe not. I don’t doubt that intelligent people are opposed to the foolishness that so often consumes our legislative system, but we have two major political parties in this country and their objectives, purposes, and procedures are often quite opposite. Since we keep electing folks from both parties (and others) and change Presidents on a regular basis (yes, I know about Presidential term limits), maybe we do want to “argue” over what is right for our Nation and our people. After all, both sides are convinced the other is wrong. The “bickering” keeps us on a relatively sound footing – or at least it used too.

Of course, my expertise is in the objectives, purposes, and procedures of the Church of Jesus Christ. Thank God we have no room for argument, bickering, bias, posturing, and the like, because the “boss” has made it clear. We do “things” His way. We play by His rules. We accomplish (or not) our task with His power. We are either obedient or reprobate. Pretty simple, really. I like it!
