Thought For The Day

Seven Billion, Wow!

The United Nations is celebrating. OK, I’m good with that. But I have some questions – and perhaps an answer.

The world population hit a whopping 7 billion, and researchers suggest it could reach 10 billion within the next century. On the one hand, this means we’re a great success — after all, the goal of any species is to expand and conquer. But, on the other hand, all that expansion means more mouths to feed, which requires more space and energy, which increases the demand on resources and the environment, perhaps too large a demand for Earth to support. Are we supposed to be excited, or concerned? What will happen if a significant number of the three billion that are coming want to “protest” rather than work? What if the number of those who are on the public dole continues to increase exponentially? What if Global Warming turns farming areas into dust bowls? What if the water and the air continue to be further contaminated? What if the “have-nots” decide to take from the “haves” by force?

Of course, we could kill the unborn by the millions, so that could help, right? We can enact a “one child per family” law, and that would help, right? Or, we could move to a mind-set society that fails to replace their population so that the old people outnumber the young people and the resulting economic strain causes that whole ethnic population to die out – like the Japanese, right?

But wait! We’ve already tried all of that! And then, again, we are supposed to be celebrating that we have reached this milestone. I guess I am confused.

Well. . .here’s a solution (and you can thank me later). Jesus Christ could come back and claim His Bride – those He has redeemed – and move them to His place. I am not sure whether that number is in the thousands, or the millions, or the billions (give or take a few hundred), but it would surely help with the problem, and I am assured they, at least, would be celebrating.

I think I’ll ask Him to do so. . .OK?
