Politicians Are Sometimes Right
Be reminded that this post is not endorsing a candidate for public office, but sometimes those who are running for office get it right. Such is the case with Ron Paul, candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.
Quoted recently in Iowa, “The role of government isn’t to mold society and mold people,” Paul said. “The role of government is to preserve liberty.”
I couldn’t agree more strongly. It does, however, beg the question, who is responsible for molding people and society? I am sure I know the answer to that dilemma. It is the work of God’s Spirit. It is the outcome of the mind and heart ingesting Truth from God’s Word, and it is effected through the family and the Church. The other Paul (the Apostle) makes that abundantly clear in the first two verses of Romans 12: Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
While every citizen of the United States who is aBeliever needs to be involved in the continual formation of Government, it is even more important that each be involved in the proclamation and practice of Truth. It is only then that the Government will be part of a society that can be governed. When Truth is abandoned in its entirety only chaos will remain.
