Descent
I have lived long enough to know that we go through cycles of trouble, conflict, war, and devastation. I am continuing to wonder if we are moving more quickly toward the “end” during these days.
CAIRO (Reuters) – Egyptian police and soldiers firing guns and teargas fought to clear protesters from Cairo’s Tahrir Square Tuesday, the fifth day of clashes that have killed 13 people . . . – were we not anxious to rid the country of that Mubarak fellow?
Would one suppose there will be some instability in North Korea with the death of one dictator and the rise of another? How will Iraq fare now that the United States has chosen to leave the area? Is Iran going to make an attempt to destroy Israel? Will Israel strike Iran peremptorily?
Yesterday there were calls for the National Guard to return to New Orleans, Louisana as violence continues to escalate. U. S. unemployment continues unabated, Republican candidates for President of the United States are feeding on each other, and, as always, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. America’s economy is on the ropes, the solution in Congress is to do little or nothing, and God’s Church seems at best listless, and at worst impotent.
Do I sound a bit pessimistic? I’m not. I believe the “end” is near – and that’s a good thing!! But I agonize over those who have not heard or refuse to hear the message of Christmas – that Christ, the Messiah, has come to set the people free from the curse of sin and death.
We are quickly descending into the abyss from which only the “second coming” can save us. Some would say – “It’s no worse than many times before.” Perhaps they are right. I hope they are right! It will give us more time to share “the faith.”
Will you help?
