What’s In A Name
A couple of years ago I was in Abuja, Nigeria. I regret I did not get to meet the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan. In fact, I did not even know Nigeria has a President.
ABUJA (Reuters) – President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Saturday on parts of northern Nigeria . . .
I am not sure how they get their Presidents in Nigeria, but if it is by vote of the masses, who wouldn’t vote for “Goodluck Jonathan?” Maybe that’s the problem here in America. We just don’t have the guys with the right names running for office.
What if we had Good Times Obama, running against Happy Go Lucky Romney, Beauty Queen Bachman, Stranger Than Fiction Paul, Fooling Around Gringrich, and Silver Tongue Perry. Wouldn’t that make it a little clearer regarding the one for whom we should vote. (Now don’t get bent – I made the names up on the spur of the moment and they have absolutely nothing to do with the real individuals, their campaign, or their character.)
The Truth is – names don’t tell us much. . .except one name that is above all others. And in 2012 we need to be reminded that Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of every name by which He has been called. I could make you a list, but I prefer you look them up and find out for yourself. For example: Emmanuel – God with us. Prince of Peace – supplying peace with God and the peace of God. Jesus – He will save His people from their sins.
Well, you get the idea. Take some time. Find out what is in a name.
