Thought For The Day

Sunday Christians

All my life I have heard of “Sunday Christians.” The term is meant to describe those folks who appear to be “Christian” on Sunday, but seldom do their actions during the other six days of the week conform to the expectations of those who are genuinely righteous.

While, in centuries past, that was a condemning heresy, it now appears to be, in the mind of many, a celebratory virtue.

How then is a Christian (read: Believer) to live? Multitudes of sermons, articles, books, and even movies have made an attempt at answering that question. Let me tell you what my Pastor told me regarding the subject –

“No one can be changed by the power of God in their life and confine that change to a 24 hour period (more or less). It would be more likely to assume that what one sees in the life of an individual over the course of 144 hours is the real nature of an individual. The 24 hours of Sunday (more or less) is the aberrant behavior.”

This might be a good time to think about that. How I live my life from day to day is the real indicator of my relationship to God. What I say or do for a few hours each week (more or less) cannot change who I am. Only God can change me completely, and all of His changes are complete changes. He (my Pastor) referred me to 2 Corinthians 5:17.

I think I need to look over my Tuesday’s a little better.
