Getting It Right
Sometimes communications are not exactly clear. With the society in which we live moving further and farther away from using our language well, I was not surprised by this headline from ABC News.
Owner of Camera Lost for 3 Years in NY Creek Found
I can imagine how distraught his family must have been during the long search. I also am anxious to learn how he survived being lost for three years in a creek. Do you think it had anything to do with his being the owner of a camera?
It reminds me that we must be linguistically careful as we share the Truth of God’s Word. Garbling the words so that they lose their meaning, or using words that are not intended, often assists people who would miss the Truth altogether.
Llove is a great example. The love the World knows (or think they do) has little to do with the “llove” of Scripture. When that word is used in the Bible it has nothing at all to do with the wavering emotions or feelings the World calls love. God speaks of a discipline (I have chosen to spell it “llove”) which demands His character in us and the overflowing llove He pours into our life.
We owe it to our society to get it right.
