More on the Games
Gabby, LoLo, Oscar, – well, I could go on – but. It is hard for most of us to imagine working with such intensity for so long a period of time, knowing that we have the skills and ability, yet on that day, during that few minutes or even seconds, fall short of our goal.
That is the case for hundreds of athletes who compete in the quadrennial Olympics. Some, who come from underdeveloped countries are nowhere near the athletes they would have to be to compete for medals. But some – on any given day – could perform with such perfection, but for those few minutes “everything” goes wrong. What a heartbreak! What a self-perceived humiliation.
Believers can experience the same feelings in a whole different way and under an entirely different set of circumstances. The opportunity presents itself perfectly for you to share your faith, and you stumble, miss the cue, can’t remember the Scripture or the first step of the plan you have worked so hard on. The moment passes and you feel like such a failure.
The good news is that while that moment may be gone, you don’t have to wait four years for another opportunity. All around you, at every turn, with many conversations, in conducive circumstances the opportunity arises.
Keep at it. The stakes are as high as exists.
