Worship
When it comes to Worship, I am convinced that “where” is not nearly as important as “how.”
In John 4, Jesus discusses with a Samaritan woman this matter after she asks about where to worship. Within the 21st Century Church there is often more discussion regarding the “where” than the “how.” Multitudes of people spend long periods of time “visiting around” looking for the “right” place. People are quick to move from one place to another at the slightest whim. Certainly finding a place to gather with the Redeemed is important – even vital, but if we are more interested in, or focused on, lesser things than worshipping God “in spirit and in truth,” we have missed the simple words of Jesus.
Worship is pictured clearly for us (for example) in Revelation 4 and 5. There are a couple of things (among many) to note. First, Worship takes place in the presence of God. God can be encountered in any place at any time. For those of us still here (on Earth) it is not the “place” that is key, it is the reality of the Spirit’s presence and the clarity of the Truth. Secondly, it is never centered or focused on the individual worshipper or one’s “needs” and “desires.” It is, rather, centered and focused on God -Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
And just so you will know – it sounds like this:
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,
Who was, Who is, and Who is coming.
Blessing and honor and glory and dominion to the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!
The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthy to receive honor and riches and wisdom and strength. (selected from Revelation 4 and 5)
