Politics and “Religion”
I don’t even like the word “religion.” My dad used to say, “Religion is man seeking God. Christianity is God seeking man.” I know that is true. But, sometimes the word serves a purpose. People say, “We need to keep politics and religion separate.” That is not only not true, it is not possible.
Who I am (a “Believer”) always affects my political stance. I can never, as is so obviously true this year, ignore my “faith” when choosing someone to lead our Nation. I don’t mean to say that I won’t vote for someone who does not believe as I do. I think our Constitution is an excellent document (wish we could find folks that would just use it correctly) and it specifically points out that no “religious test” can be a part of the process.
I do wish our Presidential candidates, and every other candidate for every other office down the line, could be required to have at least one “God-like” quality. The one I would choose is taken from Psalm 145:11 –
“The Lord is faithful in all His words and gracious in all His actions.”
If we could find some folks like that, we would have people who could be trusted to lead our Nation who do not “lie about everything” (a little bit of hyperbole) and suffer from a “lust for power.” I could vote for somebody like that without holding my nose.
