Thought For The Day

What’s Really Important

This morning I attended the funeral of a dear friend. I listen as the musician played, the singer sang, the eulogies were shared, and the minister brought a message commemorating the life of my friend. I watched as my friend’s wife fought back the tears, his sons bravely stern-faced with moist eyes, his friends sitting quietly going over the memories of his life among ours.

For a while I forgot who is President-elect, that the economy is failing fast, that whether or not it is true, the future looks dark and scary from a political, financial, and moral perspective. I forgot about my 401K, the impending tax increase, the crashing stock market, the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Sudan, and other lesser places around the world. I was unconcerned about home repossessions, job losses, universal health care, the rise of socialism, and the fate of the children learning all kinds of silliness in schools.

Instead, I though about dying. I thought about this being my last day on Earth, my funeral, my standing face to face with God. I’m glad I did! I’m glad I’m ready – whenever it comes! I’m glad I remembered what is really most important! Above all else, seriously, that is the most vital issue in life. Know it!
