New Year and Fireworks
My grand kids (and my kids) buy fireworks and shoot them off down on the farm (when we have a opportunity to be there on New Year’s Eve). I don’t mind, if they are careful. I don’t want them hurt, or the surrounding countryside set on fire.
I read with interest an article by Terry Evans, Star-Telegram.com:
“. . .dads should shoot fireworks with their kids. The owner of Nelson’s Fireworks Outlet Inc. explained that shooting fireworks is a rite of passage, like a first hunting trip. ‘Teach a kid to do it correctly, and it works,’ he said. ‘If you don’t, you’re going to have all kinds of trouble.’ “
He’s right, of course. But there is a corollary that I hope you will consider in light of the new year.
Dads should pray with their kids, read the Word of God with their kids, and attend teaching and Worship services at the local Church with their kids. It is likely that they will exercise about as much interest and involvement in these things as you do, dad. Teach a kid to do those things correctly and it will go a long way in giving them a good life. If you don’t, you’re going to have all kinds of trouble.
Make 2011 the year you teach (and demonstrate to) your kids what is really valuable in life – and mandatory in death – a relationship with the Savior of mankind, the Lord of Heaven and Earth.
