Independence Day
I will be attending the 4th of July Rodeo in St. Paul, Oregon this evening. I have been told I have the best seats in the house and there will be fireworks following the bull riding mayhem. I know there will be lots of eats, action, fun, and some celebrating of the National Holiday.
I am cognizant for the reality that there is less Independence in the United States of America than there has ever been before. In its place is a significant increase in “dependency.” There has been in the last few decades a exponential increase in the number of people who are dependent on Government to house, feed, clothe, educate, and provide resources for them. Increasing numbers of people are dependent on drugs, both legal and illegal, with probably the greatest consumption of alcohol in the history of the World.
Here in Portland, OR, where my bride and I are spending a few days, I understand there is a Starbucks on “every corner” (people dependent on coffee to keep them alert and active), but there are now more “recreational use of marijuana” outlets than Starbucks. More dependency!
I know (for sure) this is not God’s design for this
