Something New
Our society seems to always be excited by new things. From fidget spinners to self-driving automobiles, it is easy to get pumped up over fads and fantastics.
That mindset seems to create some problems for the Church of Jesus Christ. There are writers and speakers and pop-theologians that are constantly discovering “secrets” in God’s Word that the Church has missed. New Pastors, unable to maintain the work and ministry of those who have gone before them, wear the Church out with new ideas and programs designed to create “new life.” Brian McLaren, and his ilk, do more to damage the Truth than will ever be accomplished by the “alternative-right” who are, according to McLaren, building a “new religion” of white supremacy. First, there are no “secrets” in Scripture. There are no “hidden messages,” no “deeper understandings,” or “non-understandable” mysteries.
Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, God incarnate, Savior and Lord, made the profound simple. There was no “double-speak” in His words. When the Church of Jesus Christ discovers the Truth embodied by Christ the Lord, every other issue is easily resolved.
In answer to a question from an attorney, Jesus cleared the foolishness out of the way and made faith simple and clear for one who was busy trying to comprehend more than was there.
Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
Note that final sentence. Until we get that right, we will not get anything right.
