Thought For The Day

Successful People

What do successful people do on long weekends? I saw an article this week that attracted my attention, and I read it just to satisfy my mind that I am a successful person according to their standard. Not sure I did too well.

Since this is a long weekend, I want to negotiate it successfully. They listed 17 things, and I won’t bore you with all of them, but here is a sample:

1) Plan ahead, 2) Unplug, 3) Exercise, 4) Enjoy Nature, 5) Don’t think about work, 6) Recharge, 7) Enjoy yourself. (TIME)

One thing is for sure, I spend a lot of time in Nature – mowing, trimming trees, cutting briars, chasing moles, weed-eating, stacking firewood, etc., etc., – plenty of Nature. Of course I plan ahead – mow, mow, mow, weed-eat.

Naturally I am always thinking about work. Even on long weekends, just like short weekends, there is going to be “work.” The article didn’t mention those things that I do on long (and short) weekends that “recharge” me, and that I enjoy most of all – attending my favorite Church, and intertwining my life with God’s wonderful people. Those are so vital, I am not sure I could ever enjoy an extended time without those two.

In a couple of weeks or so I am  going to have the opportunity to enjoy a service in Westminster Abby in London,England. I have planned ahead, expect to be recharged, and will enjoy myself. That will be an amazing time I am sure. Perhaps it will bolster my “success feelings.” I know it will be a highlight  of 2017.

If you are in the midst of a “long weekend” try to reach out to someone with llove and grace. Give a gift of yourself to someone, and think of them as a gift to you. My friend Andy and his daughter Andrea are in my home as I write this. What a wonderful way to spend a couple of days. And on Monday (Labor Day) I will win a 5k race, and later, my bride and I will be  guests in the home of special friends. You know what? That is success! Yep, real success!
