Almost –
I think Jim Reeves said it best in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram:
“All afternoon I thought the Cowboys would win, that Romo somehow would make the play that would, in the end, make the difference in the game. So much for those happy thoughts. Almost just doesn’t quite do it.” (emphasis his)
If you are not a football person, and a Tony Romo believer, the preceding paragraph may not make much sense. Personally, I have always thought Romo was a guy who could get the job done. I’m starting to worry.
I am quite familiar with almost.
“We were almost ready to leave for Church Sunday; but then the rain started. . . .”
“We decided to spend an hour of our family time in Bible Study and were almost ready to implement our plan when we discovered our favorite TV program would be on during the only available hour.”
“We planned to make prayer a part of every day’s activities, but it almost never fails that other things interrupt our prayer time.”
If almost would do the job, there would be more wins for the Cowboys and more victories for God’s people.
