Alternatives
Our society is replete with organizations (formal or informal) that are defined by any number of designated names accepted by some but not others.
Currently there is great emphasis on the “alt-right,” and the “alt-left,” which are euphemisms for groups of people who are mostly unsavory. Knowing how large these groups are is virtually impossible. Discovering what they do and do not do is almost always defined by the opposite group. But there is a set of constants: they are loud, they are angry, and they are often violent. It would appear to this writer that if they are not brought under control, and continue to grow exponentially within the current political environment, we are all in for lots of struggles.
I have been thinking about the “alt-religion” group. If you have not encountered this particular segment of the population, it is because I just named them for the first (as far as I know) time. They are the people who decide what they want to believe based on their intellectual capacity, faith identity, friendships, morality or lack thereof, life style, and “church” history.
They make stuff up, create “orthodoxy” out of thin air (or whole cloth), reject anything and everything that does not fit their agenda, and often claim to be the majority of “God’s people.”
The Truth (which has nothing to do with religion, and is aptly named Christianity) is, they have created their own god, whom they follow, while pointing to a Bible they have never read, or having read it, do not understand. Their ideas and practices are abhorrent to God, and they damage and degrade the Church (Christ’s body) and His (that is, God) revelation to mankind which is our only hope of redemption.
Their “kind” is growing, absorbing the unenlightened and foolish, and missing the “narrow gate” that leads to life. (see Matthew 7:13-14)
Their “alternative” is the path to separation from God forever. What a tragedy!
