An Important Principle
This site will not endorse a candidate for President of the United States, but that won’t stop me from pointing out a Biblical principle by which we all must live.
Newt Gingrich is a man with some “sin” in his past. That of course makes him just like you and me. I am not at liberty, however, to pursue those issues from the past in considering his candidacy for President if indeed his words are true. Obviously I have no reason to believe otherwise.
Gingrich, a converted Catholic, has done his part by speaking openly about his past transgressions and deepening faith. “I found that I felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness. Not God’s understanding, but God’s forgiveness.” (Newt Gingrich in an interview with the Christian Broadcast Network)
He is articulating a very Christian-historical worldview. People are seeing he’s had a life transformation, . . . . (Bob Vander Plaats, the head of the Family Leader)
I am never free to hold someone accountable for that which God has forgiven. Since God is willing to forgive and forget (removing our sin as far as the East is from the West), then I too must be willing to do so. That is my Believer’s responsibility to anyone whose life is changed and forgiven by God.
One’s faith may, or may not, (that’s your opinion) be the most important issue in being President of the United States. But being true to the Truth of forgiveness is vitally important in the life of the Believer.
