Another Failure
People are seldom comfortable when our Pastor makes the following statement: “Nothing can go wrong in a marriage when a man and woman explicitly follow the rules given by the Designer of marriage.” He goes on to say that it is not the marriage that is flawed, it is the people in it. And God is in the “people fixing business.”
Another (among many) sad report in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram by Deanna Boyd, chronicles the death of two people as the husband shoots his estranged wife, then himself, along a N. Texas freeway. ” ‘The couple’s nearly six-year relationship had been tumultuous, with heated arguments and joint counseling sessions’, [an] aunt said. The couple had been separated for several months, and splitting up seemed the only answer.”
One who knows the Truth about marriage wonders if they were given the “right answer” in their counseling sessions. Is it possible this marriage, along with every other marriage, could be saved, if only people have an opportunity to hear the Truth and then made the choice to live by it? It is amazing the beauty, joy, peace, comfort, success, well-being, hope – and every other good thing – that comes through the marriage relationship when two people are perfectly moving toward “becoming one person.” (see Genesis 2:24)
Many people (especially marriage counselors) spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find out what is wrong with “marriage.” To quote my long gone grandfather, “that’s just barking up the wrong tree.”
