Thought For The Day

Bible-Minded

According to Time Magazine this week, the American Bible Society has released a new survey which ranks U.S. cities in terms of ‘Bible-mindedness’. I am not sure what that means exactly, but I couldn’t wait to see what they found. Time said something about the cities on the bottom as being “godless.” That is an interesting choice of words.

Anyway, the most Bible-minded city in America in the number one position? Chattanooga, TN.  The least Bible-minded city in at 100, was a tie between Providence, RI and New Bedford, MA. Now you have to be asking yourself where did the DFW Metroplex figure into this study. Here’s a question for you. What if it were up to you? Evidently the question asked by the American Bible Society was: “How many times have you read the Bible this week outside of Church or Synagogue?” So what is your answer? Are you moving your home town toward the Godly or godless end of the scale?

I don’t have any strong feelings about where we stand in these ratings. I am not sure I would make the connection between Bible reading and being Godly or godless. Obviously failure to know the Truth from God’s Word tends to make one ignorant of God’s design and purpose, thereby rendering one less Godly.

So, if you get a call from the ABS asking about your habits of Bible reading – what is your answer?

Oh, DFW Metroplex? Number 22 on the list. At least something good must be happening somewhere around here.
