Thought For The Day

Burning Bridges

We have all heard the phrase – “burning his bridges behind him.” Something sorta like that happened yesterday in Washington not to far from the Canadian border. A truck carrying a rather tall load hit the top of a bridge span on I-5, and. . .

“This is a really significant event and we need to learn from it, not just in Washington but around the country,” Hersman said after taking a boat ride on the Skagit River below the dramatic scene where a truck bumped against the steel framework, collapsing the bridge and sending two vehicles and three people falling into the chilly water. Naturally, it got me thinking about the bridges we collapse (burn) as we wander through life. That too is really significant, and it is easy to do. Something is said, or done, or happens, and we reply, respond, react, in such a way that a connection is lost – often forever. It is hard to reestablish relationships once there has been a collapse.

The Word of God tells us to guard our mouth, our actions, even our thoughts. Being offensive is easy. Being a “bridge builder” is often more difficult and time-consuming. Take the high road. Missing bridges are hard on everyone.
