Thought For The Day

Censorship

I remember reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and enjoying it immensely. I lived near Hannibal, Missouri at the time. In any case, I don’t remember being offended, damaged, pre-disposed to racial prejudice, or taken with any other such problem because of the experience.

“. . .publishers print a new version of Mark Twain’s classic ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ without racial slurs. . . .”  TimeOnline.com

In thinking about our concern regarding offensive words in literature, however, I don’t know any book that is more offensive than the Bible. Maybe we need to remove some words from it.

I would guess the most offending word in God’s book is “sin,” and all the derivations thereof. So if we took that word out, we would have a book that is more “readable,” more “politically correct,”  less of a burden for folks to bear. We also need to remove the word “guilty.” If there is anything we need less of, it is guilt.

Of course we could find all the “sin” and “guilt” removed from our life instead. An application of the blood of Christ Jesus, God’s sacrificial Lamb for reconciliation, resolves all the problem.

Is it OK to use that word – “blood?”
