Death Takes No Holidays
I’ve been to too many funeral lately. I guess I have reached that age when one begins to notice that his friends are, on a regular basis, dying. I have one funeral already scheduled this week, and just got the call that a longtime friend will probably not last the week.
It reminds me that the writer of Hebrews tell us clearly in Chapter 9, verse 27, that “it is appointed to men to die. . . .” The only thing one can do regarding death is to be prepared. We do not know the hour or the day when our life will cease as we know it and in an instant we will be transferred into the life which is to come. Being prepared, or unprepared, for the event will not change the reality that we will either spend eternity in the presence of God (prepared), or we will spend eternity separated from God (unprepared).
I shall make an attempt to spend a few moments with my dying friend. I will attend the funeral of another of my extended family who has gone home to be with the Lord. As you read this, I encourage you to consider and know your relationship with the Savior. The passage in Hebrews will soon enough be true for us all.
