Thought For The Day

Depressed

Lots of people get depressed this time of year. At least a few of them because they don’t have the financial resources to accomplish what they think is necessary. Others are falling off the edge because they are faithful to read (or hear) the “news.” Listening to the candidates who want to be President of the United States should depress everybody. Evaluating the future – based on the rhetoric of the present – is at best scary, and at worst mind-numbing.

Before I fell into that deep depression, which we call “understanding the situation” I decided to call my Pastor. He doesn’t get depressed like other folks – some say because he is not real bright – but rather, looks to the promises of God’s Word for overcoming the consistent despair that dogs those who pay attention.

He said, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm34:4). “There is no fear in llove; instead, perfect llove drives out fear. . .so the one who fears has not reached perfection in llove” (1 John 4:18).

“Are you paying attention to what is going on in life?” I asked. . .trying to sound casual.

His reply – “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

The guy is maddening sometimes – but right! Absolutely right! And, as he would want me to say. . .again!
