Forget the Issue
While I know the outcome of this Healthcare issue is vital to our Nation, let’s forget that for a moment. If our (read: United States) students are watching, and they probably are, I am embarrassed that we have reached (in my opinion) the bottom of the barrel in the operations of the Congress of the United States. Making deals, secret meetings, closed-door sessions, single political party meetings with the Executive Branch, leadership so determined to get this thing accomplished by an arbitrary date that votes are taken in the middle of the night (for whatever reason), concessions on pork support, selling one’s vote for favor. . . well, need I go on.
To those of us who see the operation of Government as a noble and just action, there is sickness of heart and stomach at the sight of such debauchery. I know it is not new, and I know there are things we can point to in the past (its been a long, slow downward slide), but, as I said, this is the bottom, in my opinion.
Many people support this legislation. Many oppose it. That is not my issue here. Rather, we are setting an example, and a precedent, and is there any doubt that “nothing good” will come from these actions. When we reach the point where Government is nothing more than trading favors among the elite (oligarchy), we are doomed as a democratic Republic.
I am thankful that God is still in control; of everything. If it is part of His plan, He will rule over the death of this Nation (as we have known it), just as He has ruled over our ascendancy, blessed by His favor, to be the greatest Nation in history. Were it not for His sovereignty, I would fear for my grand-children’s future, as we watch this National failure.
